Susan Meader passed away at her home, surrounded with love, in Chugiak, Alaska September 21st, 2024.
Bom Susan Powers on November 20, 1952 in Doylestown, PA. to Richard D. Powers and Emma L. Powers. As an infant Susan, her two sisters and parents moved to Anchorage, Alaska, briefly, before their growing family settled in Birchwood.
Susan loved Alaska, while she loved sun and beaches, she was proud to be an Alaskan, a true pioneer. She cherished the outdoors and was an avid cyclist, who loved hiking, alpine skiing, and taking long walks with her beloved dog, Lupine. Susan was so funny, she truly had most wonderful sense of humor. Whenever a bug hit the windshield, she'd laugh and say "They won't have the guts to do that again!" She had a gift for finding joy and laughter in the small things. Her massive heart was a treasure, the size of Denali!
Susan was also an accomplished Quilter, a lifelong passion she shared with her mother and sisters, making many unique quilts for family and friends.
Susan was preceded in death by her first husband, George Malekos with whom she operated the North Slope Restaurant in Eagle River for over 30 years. During that time, Susan owned a fabric store, Sew Much Fun, also located in Eagle River. A name that perfectly reflected her delightful sense of humor and her love for sewing. She worked for the Alaska railroad, before moving into a position with an investment firm in Eagle River, where she remained until retirement.
After George's passing, Susan married Terry Meader of Chugiak. Terry also preceded her in death, during their time together, Terry encouraged her to go on new adventures like riding motorcycles and taking snowmachine trips, together they wrote new chapters in their life stories.
Susan adored her family, her friends who became extended family and all of their adventures in Alaska, the lower 48 and Ireland.
At Susan's request, a dear family friend will spread her ashes into the Chugach Mountain Range, always a wild Alaskan woman, may the winds of the tundra gently guide her home.
