Geraldine Butler

Online memorial was created by Michael on 05-27-2017

Geraldine “Jerry” Butler, age 86 of Danbury, CT, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 25 with her family by her side. Jerry was born on December 8, 1930 in Hanover, PA. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Vogen and Rose (Migdal) Vogen, and was predeceased by her 5 brothers and 1 sister. Jerry married her high school sweetheart, the late Stephen Butler, in 1950 before settling in Bedford, NY, to raise their four children. She resided there for over 40 years and retired from IBM in Armonk, NY, before relocating to Danbury to be closer to family.

Jerry loved to travel, paint landscapes, read mysteries, and watch Fox News with an occasional glass of Pinot Grigio in hand. Above all, she was a devoted mother to Stephen Butler and his wife Joy of Dunlap, IL; her daughter Kathleen Leavy of whom she was predeceased; Eileen Loya and her husband Michael of Bethel, CT; Maureen Fender and her husband Greg of Parker, CO.

Jerry’s proudest achievement was watching the growth of each of her grandchildren: Stephen Butler, Kerri (Butler) Catania, and her husband Steven Catania; Tracy, Eddie, and Sarah Leavy; Amy, Meghan, Amanda, and Ben Loya; Tyler and Geoffrey Fender. Always seated in the front row, Jerry never missed an event or game. She taught them compassion, patience, understanding, the importance of family, and the courage to stay true to their convictions.

Family and friends will gather for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am on Wednesday, May 31^st at Saint Mary Church, 24 Dodgingtown Road, Bethel, CT followed by interment at Saint Mary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Mary School, 24 Dodgingtown Road, Bethel, CT 06801 or the Danbury Animal Welfare Society, 147 Grassy Plain Street, Bethel, CT 06801.
