Celene Mildred Arrow (1933 - 2023)

Celene Mildred Arow (Woodford) was born to Mathilda and John Woodford of Shageluk, Alaska. She is survived by her lone sister, Lori Christiansen of Metlakatla and her children – Ralph Woodford, Amy Linda Joy Modig, William Paul, Anthony Paul, Sandra Cecelia King, John King, James Woodford and Daniel Re. She had over twenty grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, She is preceded in death by her parents, her siblings but one and two sons, John and Harvey King; husbands, Phillip Arrow, Billy King, Earl Brown and James Re.

She grew up in Shageluk, with frequent visits to Holikachuk, Anvik, Grayling and Holy Cross and learned the ways of the land with her beloved father. She sent time in Takotna, and moved to Anchorage as a young wife and several children and lived most of her life there. She also lived in Metlakatla, Copper Center, Washington State and Oregon.

Celene worked as a caretaker for Elders, housekeeper and a cook on crab-boats in Dutch Harbor on the Aleutian Islands. She had a full, wonderful life and was known for her lively story-telling, especially with her sisters, Agnes and Lori. She was raised in a strong, traditional home and was known for her delicious cooking. She was surrounded by her loved ones when she passed from pneumonia.

There will be a visitation and service at Evergreen Memorial Chapel on January 27, 2023 from 11 am to 3 pm. She will then be transported to Shageluk. In lieu of flowers, food and cash donations can be made for the potlatch there. Dogidinh, dearest mother, sister, aunt, cousin,, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, Elder.
